I am a self-taught photographer based in Helsinki, drawn to light, shadow, and the stories scenes tell. I was born in Kathmandu, but grew up in Duradanda, Lamjung, a remote village in Nepal where the nearest motor road was a 3-4 hour walk. Life was quiet and simple, and there wasn't much to distract you from what was right in front of you. That made me notice things: how light moved across mountains, the geometry in emptiness, the mood in silence.
I think I was around eleven when I was visiting Kathmandu. My uncle had a camera with him. I remember being fascinated by it and thinking that I wanted one someday. I also remember thinking it was impossibly heavy, like, why would anyone hang something this heavy around their neck? Haha. That moment stuck with me. Growing up in Nepal meant focusing on studies and grades - the path to a good job and a better life. Photography had to wait. I moved to Finland, and in 2019, I bought my first camera: a Fujifilm X-T30. Finally.
PHOTOGRAPHY
My early days were humbling. I'd take 200 or 300 photos and hate almost all of them when I got home. I had no idea what I was doing with camera settings, light, or composition. But I kept learning on my own. Slowly, I started to see differently.
Travelling to different countries sharpened my eye. Each place teaches you how mood and atmosphere can transform an ordinary moment into something cinematic.
By day, I have a full-time job. But photography is where I find peace. It's meditative and grounding, a way to slow down and really see. My camera is now almost always with me.
